William McCarty
Senior Software Engineer
As a Senior Software Engineer, I apply my passion and expertise in development to create engaging and immersive gaming experiences. I have been in the gaming industry for over nine years, and I have worked on both the server and client sides of at least seven games released to millions of users worldwide.
Personal Info
Since childhood, I’ve been captivated by the allure of creation. Whether it was cobbling together structures from discarded cardboard boxes or delving into the intricate worlds of video games, I’ve always sought to craft and innovate. The advent of video games opened up a new realm of possibilities for me, where I spent countless hours honing my skills, defeating bosses, solving puzzles, and engaging in friendly competition with both family and friends. It’s those moments of camaraderie and shared experiences that I hold dear, the late-night gaming sessions and the joy of triumphing together.
As I neared the end of my high school journey and had to contemplate my future, I reflected on my two passions: building and gaming. It became clear to me that merging these passions was the natural path forward. Thus, the decision to pursue game development was born. This lifelong dedication to both creation and gaming fuels me to tackle any challenge head-on, to acquire new skills, and to bring to life experiences that resonate with players, just as they have with me.
Career
After completing my education at San Jose State University, I was presented with an exciting opportunity to join a pioneering program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, called Games and Playable Media. Under the mentorship of industry luminaries John and Brenda Romero, renowned figures in the gaming world, the curriculum provided a comprehensive immersion into game development. Over the course of a year, we were tasked with crafting a game from scratch, with guidance from esteemed developers who shared invaluable insights and advice throughout the process. As a result, our final project showcased the culmination of our hard work and dedication.
Following this enriching experience, I embarked on my professional journey as a
Developer at LG Dev Shop, where I became involved in the development of Darblez. It was here that I truly found my niche, initially focusing on UI feature integration before transitioning to backend development to provide essential support. Eager to contribute effectively, I immersed myself in learning a new programming language to enhance our project.

Despite our collective efforts, Darblez struggled to gain the traction we envisioned, prompting my transition to Galxyz as a Game Developer. Here, I collaborated with a talented team to develop Blue Apprentice, an educational game designed to spark children’s interest in science. My responsibilities ranged from UI enhancements to backend support, allowing me to broaden my skill set and deepen my understanding of game development dynamics.
Subsequently, I found myself at Glu (Electronic Arts), where I contributed to the development of WWE Universe. Although our endeavors fell short of anticipated success, the experience paved the way for the inception of Deer Hunter World. This project afforded me the opportunity to take ownership and tackle significant challenges, despite ultimately facing audience reception setbacks.

Following a restructuring period, my focus shifted to the core product, Tap Sports Baseball, where I played a pivotal role in its evolution. Leveraging insights from past projects, including Deer Hunter World, we implemented improvements to enhance server authority and combat cheating. This iterative process, culminating in Tap Sports Baseball 23, allowed me to deepen my expertise as a Software Engineer while contributing to the advancement of the gaming industry.
Throughout these endeavors, my unwavering enthusiasm for games has remained a driving force, propelling me to seek continuous learning and innovation. It is this passion that fuels my commitment to creating immersive and groundbreaking gaming experiences, shaping my journey as a Software Engineer.
